Swirling dawn mists. Abstract urban scenes. Fanciful reflections. Light and shadow. Full-frame worlds exploding from tiny dewdrops.
These elements inspire me to create visual poetry using photography, montage, and painting on canvas, panel, and paper. Photography allows me to explore the depth of fleeting visions. I use digital montage to morph my original images into more complex, multi-layered works that are scenes from my imagination. Painting gives me the freedom and space to experiment more deeply at the boundary between representation and abstraction. More recently, I have been using many layers of paint and gel to create a tactile surface that evokes great visual depth.
I delight in unexpected vantage points and perspectives and make vivid use of color and texture.
My activities as a professional classical violist provide further inspiration for my visual artwork. I continually discover new interconnections between the various media. I thrive on the sense of adventure as I move between them, and I find that working in one medium enriches my experience in the others. In the end, my personal voice speaks through all.
