The trademark of Chatham Glass Co., established in 1987 by artist Jim Holmes and Deborah Doane, is the daring use of brilliant color. Drawing continual inspiration from organic forms and his serene costal surroundings, Jim executes each piece with an unswerving dedication to simplicity and beauty while incorporating a distinctive flair for expressive and vibrant color compositions. The end result - a series of bud vases, candlesticks, bowls and platters that are functional works of art infused with a playful personality and spirit.
As an artisan committed to the actual process and historical significance of glassblowing as an ancient art form, Jim employs traditional methods that are thousands of years old. Creating each piece individually at the end of a blowpipe, he patiently works the glass at temperatures in excess of 2000 degrees Fahrenheit to shape a form that communes artistic integrity with a contemporary, bold aesthetic. Upon completion, each piece is dated and signed with the name of his studio, Chatham Glass Co.
