What do you make?: I design organic, intricate and sometimes whimsical earrings using CAD software. I have them 3-D printed out of nylon and then I dye them.

Atomic Earrings are small organic sculptures inspired by nature. Created using the magic of 3-D Printing, they are hollow, intricate and dramatic, yet incredibly lightweight. They're printed out of a durable nylon and with every pair of earrings we'll include a free booklet that describes "How Atomic Earrings Are Made". We now also offer 3D printed nylon bracelets & necklaces.

How did you get your start?: After closing down my prop company (Foam Props) after 25 years I started teaching a course at a makerspace in Somerville called the Artisan’s Asylum. They offered a beginners course in CAD and they had a 3-D printer. It occurred to me that designing earrings would be a nice change after sculpting 15′ stiletto heel shoes.

How long have you been in business?: I set up my website last November offering 10 designs in 5 different colors. Now it’s 20 designs in 16 colors and it’s about to expand again.

Who is your product perfect for?: Because they’re 3-D printed I assumed that techies and early adopters would want to own something on the “cutting edge” of tech and fashion. But it turns out that lots of people have heard of 3-D printing…but they don’t quite understand it. Part of the fun is explaining how this magic works.
