Liz Hyde was born and raised on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia to Dutch parents. Her early childhood gave her an intense appreciation for nature and the beauty of plants. This carried into her adult life, inspiring her to create extensive gardens wherever she lived, and to pursue a career in landscape design. Her pottery is an extension of that love for beautiful and natural objects.

The extreme natural forces at work deep in the earth inspire the colors for Liz's functional pottery. Taking raw clay and creating pottery by subjecting it to intense heat, and melting minerals into vibrant glaze colors mimics the creation of metamorphic rocks.

The juxtaposition of vibrant colors and materials with delicately worked edges and handles create a balance between raw beauty and functional utility.

Liz is a graduate of Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, New York where she studied Graphic Arts and Sculpture.
