Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Eliza Goodell spent her formative years overseas. She received her BA from Smith College in Art History and German. Her introduction to clay came through taking a class at Ocmulgee Pottery in Ipswich, MA. Eliza has been creating hand built ornaments for the past 5 years at Purple Sage Pottery, Merrimac, MA. Her foundation as an artist comes from quotes which have inspired her life. Eliza’s ornaments are individually cut out of porcelain and reduction fired in a gas kiln to over 2200 degrees F. Brushed by the flames in the kiln, the glazes vaporize transforming the ornaments in unique and beautiful ways.

Quotes she is currently using include:

“HOPE is the thing with feathers which perches in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops, at all”

—Emily Dickinson

“No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted”—Aesop

“Where there is great love, there are always miracles”—Willa Cather
