My passion for textiles led me to study at Sheridan College, School of Design in Ontario. After graduating, I established my business, WovenArt in Toronto and wove commissioned tapestries for corporate clients across Canada during the next 10 years.
I moved to Massachusetts in 1983. In order to learn new techniques of surface design and to create my own dyed cloth, I studied at Massachusetts College of Art in the 3D / Fibers Department which was very exciting and inspiring.
Color and texture are key elements in my one-of-a-kind work. The garments I design and hand make include jackets, vests, sweater shawls and capes. I use existing fabrics with my hand dyed silks to achieve the final affect. I often create my own trims from my dyed fabrics and yarns for embellishment.
My scarves are hand dyed with different types of silk. The flat scarves are often trimmed and beaded for extra interest. The technique used for my crinkle scarf is arashi shibori. This accomplishes a highly textured, hand pleated scarf which is dyed in an array of vivid colors.
Inspired by travel, nature and the fine arts, my aim is to create clothing that is distinctive with a casual flare. My scarves and garments can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion.
